The Birth and Evolution of Punjabi Cinema
Punjabi cinema, or “Pollywood,” began its journey in 1928 with the silent film The Daughters of Today (also known as Prem Priksha), produced by the Premium Company in Lahore, the then capital of greater Punjab. Directed by G.K. Mehta (Gopal Krishan Mehta), the film was censored in Bombay in October 1928 and premiered at Imperial Cinema, Lamington Road, Bombay, in January 1929.

PUNJABI CINEMA
Punjabi cinema, sometimes metonymously referred to as Pollywood, is the Punjabi-language film industry centered around the Indian state of Punjab, and based in chandigarh.
The cinema of Punjab has its beginnings with the 1928 production of Daughters of Today, the earliest feature film produced in the region. The first sound film, Heer Ranjha, using the sound-on-disc technology, was released in 1932. Since then, many films have been produced in Punjabi cinema, a number of which have received international recognition. Many actors and filmmakers started their careers in Punjabi films, a number of whom have acquired international reputations, and a number of whom have found greater financial benefits in careers in larger film producing industries.
PUNJABI MUSIC
Music of Punjab reflects the traditions of the Punjab region of the Indian subcontinent, currently divided into two parts: East Punjab and West Punjab. The Punjab has diverse styles of music, ranging from folk and Sufi to classical, notably the Patiala gharana. While this style of music is, obviously, most popular in Punjab, it has seen popularity in many diverse and different areas of the world, such as Southern Ontario.
If one music genre that is popular around the world today and is the signature dance move for any Punjabi around the world than that is Bhangra. Bhangra is actually music and dance form that originated from Punjab in India.
Mainstream Punjabi music is also famous for its unique tunes and beats. Songs with high notes with excellent tunes and rhythmic beats become super catchy for the non-Punjabi-speaking audience. They may not understand the lyrics, but the tunes and beats make them become listeners of Punjabi music.
